It Was There A Minute Ago!

Have you ever misplaced something that was in your hand a moment before? Are you sure you put socks into the washer, but it never appeared in the dryer? Were you sure that you bought all the ingredients to make a particular recipe, only to find one, usually a significant one, missing?

These are commonplace in my life. I try to be organized, but something is out to get me. I don’t know what it is, but it always happens.

Today’s mystery is most baffling. Every year, when the seasons change, I wash or clean the clothing from that season and remove it from my closet. I bring it upstairs to an extra closet and bring down the new or current season wardrobe. I always leave a couple of outfits from the previous season until the weather settles.

The problem started when I didn’t know what size wardrobe to bring down. I have been up and down four sizes for the last 20 years!

There is also the problem of changing styles. I used to give away gobs of clothing rather than keep the various sizes, but inevitably, what goes down comes back up, so I now keep various clothing articles.

It usually takes me several days to accomplish the change.

This year, I decided to try on all the clothing. Sometimes, you just have to ignore a size label. It’s exhausting. Next, with the items you can still wear, you must match up pants to tops. Inevitably, you have one pair of slacks that don’t match any tops. Ok, you go shopping but find other things and still don’t have anything to wear with those pants. I’m in that situation now.

I carefully arranged all my tops in color order; it makes life easier. Instead of putting away the tops in the largest size category, I had a brilliant idea. I would wear some of these oversized and very long shirts, pair them with a lot of stretchy exercise pants, mainly to the knee, and use them to sleep in. I pulled out an array of tops in colors and had plenty of black or gray bottoms. I put the tops aside. I finished bringing the warm-weather clothes to the upstairs closet and put the “new” sleeping clothes (or so I thought) into the closet. I even made a section for it. I finished that chore and did something else. Later that evening, I went to my closet to choose my outfit for the morning.

The weather is quite cool today, but I had to wear the lightest clothing possible without freezing because I have a doctor’s appointment and they will weigh me! I know it’s nuts, but I don’t want to be an ounce heavier than my last visit. I decided to see if one of the lightweight stretchy pants would work with the thin, long-sleeve blouse I chose. I turned to the area I had put them in last night, and…… nothing was there!

I have now spent an hour trying to find the bottoms and tops that would be my new P.J.s. So far, I have had no luck.
